Crumble is always a great last minute dessert. Quick and easy, with no dough to roll out. Simply a flavorful, moist filling balanced by a crisp, crunchy top. Perfect served with home made ice cream, it can be made from any fruit. But for fall and especially after Thanksgiving, this Apple Cranberry combination fills those all to short lived leftover cravings we all wish we didn’t get. Enjoy!
4 cups apples – Pared, cored and sliced
1 cup fresh cranberries
Juice of 1 lemon
1/3 cup maple syrup
Topping
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup raw almonds – chopped
1/4 cup butter – keep cold until needed
1 tspn Cinnamon
1/2 tspn salt
Directions
Preheat Oven to 375
Filling: In a 9″ pie plate or baking dish, combine apples and cranberries. Pour maple syrup and lemon juice over the mixture.
Topping: Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Cut butter into pieces and work lightly into the mixture with your fingertips. You want a pebbly consistancy. warm butter or overworking, will result in an oily topping. Spread the crumbles over the top of the fruit.
Bake about 30 minutes.
Serve hot or cold
